Macye Ann Metz Taylor, 87, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.
She was born on Jan. 24, 1934, to Dewitt and Lucille Smith Jones in Doniphan. She moved to Poplar Bluff in 1937 and has resided in the area since then.
Macye attended Mississippi State College for Women, where she received her bachelor’s degree. She worked for several years as a medical technologist but later discovered her joy was being a homemaker and a mother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Macye was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was an ardent animal lover and environmentalist and was an enthusiastic reader. She also was a Friend of the Poplar Bluff Public Library and a member of The Eastern Star.
She married Col. James H. Metz in 1958. He preceded her in death in 1968, a casualty of the Vietnam Conflict. In 1978, Macye married John William Taylor. He preceded her in death in 2016.
Macye is survived by two daughters, Karen Medley (James) of Springfield and Melissa Matthews (Doug) of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; a son, James H. Metz, Jr. of Poplar Bluff; a brother, Timothy D. Jones of Nevada, Missouri; a sister, Janise Wolfe of Little Rock, Arkansas; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include three stepdaughters, Patricia Reed (Charlie) of Springfield, Edith Fender (Danny) of Lakeland, Georgia and Camille MacDonald (Bob) of Poplar Bluff; as well as several nieces and nephews and a special cousin, Randy Maness (Siegrid) of Doniphan.
Visitation will be begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, at Willow Ridge Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 11 am in the Chapel with the Rev. Jim Schremp officiating. Interment will take place at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
