Lester Shepard, 84, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, Sept. 29, 2017 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center

Mr. Shepard, the son of the late John Shepard and Gladys (Twitty) Johnson, was born Sept. 18, 1933 in Butler County. He was of the Christian faith and a self-employed farmer. Mr. Shepard was a hardworking man who loved the outdoors and if you needed help he was always ready to lend a hand. He enjoyed trapping, building dog boxes and in his earlier years coon hunting, but probably his greatest joy was playing with his great grandkids.

On Sept. 29, 1956 he married Gwendolla Cornett. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include four children: Barbara (Paul) Humphrey, Lisa Hanner, Kristina Shepard and Guy Shepard; four grandchildren: Miranda (Ryan), Josh (Jamie), Stacy (Randy) and Rachael (Justin); seven great-grandchildren: two sisters, Patsy (Jim) Dorris and Carol Stewart; five half sisters: Dorothy McCullough, Wanda Ploeckelmann, Susan (Lynn) Fair, Janet Edwards and Judy Ward; half brothers: Robert (Barb) Ellis and John (Chris) Shepard,

Three brothers, Jess Shepard, Frankie Shepard and Everett Shepard, half-brother David Shepard, son-in-law Roy Hanner Jr. also preceded Mr. Shepard in death.

Visitation was Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will began at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kerns Chapel in Butler County with Rev. Jimmy Bruce officiating. Burial will follow at Kerns Chapel Cemetery.
