Dallas Lavern Elder, 82, of Poplar Bluff, passed away July 2, 2022.
He was born on Sept. 20, 1939, to Bert Elder and Stella Bowers. On July 6, 1957, he was married to Virginia Belle Rommel.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Poplar Bluff; his two sons, Danny Elder of Piggott, Arkansas, and Darren Elder of Brentwood, Tennessee, and four grandchildren, Brittany and Dan Elder, both of Poplar Bluff, and London and Sawyer Elder, both of Brentwood, Tennessee.
He worked at the Daily American Republic for 52 years and retired in 2015. He loved fishing with his sons and watching Tennessee Titans football. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Lavern was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Elder of Poplar Bluff, in 2004.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2022, at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Fitch-Hillis Chapel, with Dennis Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Little Brushy Cemetery.
