POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Kenneth Leon Wood, 90, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., passed away Friday, July 12, 2019 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Wood was the son of the late Robert and Hettie (Simmons) Wood, was born November 9, 1928 in Poplar Bluff. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. Mr. Wood graduated from Poplar Bluff High School and attended college at the University of Missouri-Columbia where he received a Bachelor of Accounting degree. He proudly served his country in the Army and served during the Korean War. He retired as an accountant for Wetterau in 1993. After his retirement he enjoyed reading and volunteering for the Cape Girardeau Senior Center and the Cape Police Department.
On September 15, 1951 he married Lorene Kearbey in Flat Woods, Mo. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter-in- law, Carolyn Wood of Cape Girardeau; a granddaughter, Megan Wood of Cape Girardeau and a sister, Phyllis Koenig of Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his son, John Keith Wood; a sister, Virginia Davidson and his brother, Robert L. Wood.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 14 at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Glen Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow at Sparkman Cemetery in Butler County.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Missouri Veterans Home or the Cape Girardeau Senior Center.
