POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Kathy Gott, 69, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., entered Heaven on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at her residence.

She was born on March 24, 1949 to William and Virginia Wilkes in Mendenhall, Miss. She was born and raised on Gulf Coast of Florida and graduated high school in the mid-60s. On March 6, 1985 she married Gary Gott in Poplar Bluff.

Kathy was very creative, especially in needle work, quilting, and other artistic mediums. She had a generous spirit and supported the children of St. Jude’s, Native American Schools, and The American Cancer Society. She also had an appreciation for wildlife and was an avid supporter of her husband and family’s outdoor sportsmanship.

After high school she worked for AT&T in Little Rock, Ark. for 10 years. She then began her new career as an oral surgical nurse for Dr. Cox in Poplar Bluff. Later, the highlight of her career, was being the sole recovery nurse for a team of five oral surgeons in Wichita, Kan. Being self-taught and a dedicated quick learner, Kathy worked the main office and was also chosen to fly with their support team to satellite locations about 100 miles away. She was also in charge of OSHA compliance, maintaining a perfect record over her career there. Kathy and Gary retired and moved back to Poplar Bluff to be closer to family and friends.

She is survived by her husband; Gary Gott, five children; Shannon Free, Michael Free, Shannon Sanders, Stephanie Gott, Harvey Free and a number of grand and great-grandchildren, three siblings; LaVerne McClellan, Jackie Crot, and Buddy Wilkes.

The family has requested private services to be held at a later date.
