Julie Kay Harkey, 57, of Poplar Bluff, left this life May 3 surrounded by family at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center after an unexpected collapse.

Julie was born in Loveland, Ohio, on April 29, 1965. At around age 15, her family moved to Missouri. She was preceded in death by her father, Jim Shulse, and is survived by her mother, Joyce Shulse of Poplar Bluff; brothers, Gene Shulse and his wife, Pam, of Poplar Bluff, and Allen Shulse of Poplar Bluff; sister, Krista Shumate and her husband, Shang, of St. Louis; daughter, Kristen Coomer and her husband, Ryan, of Springfield; and many members of her extended family.

Julie was often considered “the life of the party,” and was known for being at least “fashionably late.” Her antics never failed to get a laugh, especially with kids. She enjoyed dining out with family, supporting the local Goodwill, and listening to Allen play music.

Julie elected to be an organ and tissue donor, in hopes that her death might secure life for many others. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made in Julie’s name to Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks.
