John Carol Houts passed away Sept. 24, 2019 at his home in Point Blank, Texas. He was born May 20, 1933 and was 86 years old. John arrived into this world on his parents’ farm on Ten Mile Creek west of Poplar Bluff and was the youngest of a family of ten children.
When John was growing up here on this farm, he and his brother Farris, were very active in the Butler County 4-H and won many blue ribbons.
John joined the Air Force in 1952 and served until 1972. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant and was stationed in Roswell, New Mexico, Amarillo, Texas and Fort Worth, Texas.
He was in the Strategic Air Command and served over eleven years. John flew as a tail gunner in B29s, B36s and B52s and flew bomber missions from Guam, Thailand and Okinawa.
John is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Cheryl Golden; grandson, Matthew and wife, Lauren; five great-grandchildren and one sister, Irma Houts Epps.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Earl Houts and Pearl Houts; four brothers and four sisters.
John will be sadly missed by family and many friends. His ashes will be scattered over his favorite fishing “hole” in Texas.
