John Ambrose Hennessy, 91, of Poplar Bluff, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017 at Mark Twain Caring Center in Poplar Bluff. John Ambrose Hennessy, 91, of Poplar Bluff, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017 at Mark Twain Caring Center in Poplar Bluff.

He was born April 4, 1926 to John and Josephine (Coackley) Hennessy in Boston, Maine. He graduated high school from St. Charles Academy in Boston and later from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. John worked as a teacher for Poplar Bluff School System for 19 years at Lake Road and O'Neal Elementary School Schools. On June 26, 1986 he married Lucille Shellnut in Poplar Bluff at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Poplar Bluff.

John served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

John is survived by his loving spouse of 31 years, Lucille Hennessy of Poplar Bluff; one daughter, Julie (Cliff) Heggs of St. Louis, Mo.; his stepson, Andy (Ruth) Shellnut and their children, Kenneth and Drew Shellnut, all of Longmont, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joan McGraw.

Graveside services will be held at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo. and will be announced by Moore Funeral Service.
