PIEDMONT, Mo. - James D. Sutton, 86, of Piedmont, passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020 at the Northeast Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro, Ark.
He was born June 23, 1934 in Chicago, Ill. Jim was married to Faye Roach Jan. 1, 1954 at Lodi, Missouri and was a longtime resident of Piedmont.
He retired as a Major in the Army National Guard, serving from 1952 to 1976. He was Mayor of Piedmont from 1982 to 1986 and was a 50-year member and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge # 526. He was also a 50-year member and Past Deputy Lecturer of the Order of the Eastern Star. Jim was a graduate of Columbia College in 1975 and owned and operated Sutton Insurance Agency. He was a 25-year Certified Insurance Counselor and was a past board member of the Missouri Association of Independent Insurance Agents. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and recently had been attending Tabernacle Baptist Church in Piedmont.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Hayes and Sheila Lovelace; his son, John R. Sutton; and his grandson, Alon Sutton.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Sutton, of the home; two children, James Sutton, Jr., of McCormick, South Carolina, Janet Rose and her husband, Gary, of Piedmont, six grandchildren, Jamie Sutton, T.J. Sutton, John Ryan Sutton, Houston Sutton, Tyler Rose and his wife, Alesha, and Lindsey Wyatt and her husband, Tommy.
Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren, Christopher, Gavin, Raylan and Jonathan Sutton, Rylee and Owen Rose, Thomas, Bentlee and Cooper Wyatt, as well as many other family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Masonic Cemetery in Piedmont with Rev. Jim Stewart officiating. Memorials have been requested to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
