James “Jim” Harold Harwell, Jr., 82-year-old United States Air Force Vietnam Era Veteran, and longtime resident of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, with his beloved wife of 35 years, Vicki, at his bedside. Vicki unconditionally loved and cared for Jim through the joys, hardships, and challenges they experienced during his lengthy illnesses. ...

James “Jim” Harold Harwell, Jr., 82-year-old United States Air Force Vietnam Era Veteran, and longtime resident of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, with his beloved wife of 35 years, Vicki, at his bedside. Vicki unconditionally loved and cared for Jim through the joys, hardships, and challenges they experienced during his lengthy illnesses. 

Jim was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on May 8, 1940. He was preceded in death by his parents: James Harold, Sr., and Letha Mae Harwell; and his brother-in-law, Gilbert Tarrance. 

Survivors include his wife: Vicki Harwell; five children: Donna Lynn (Troy) Bryant, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; James Stephan (Linda) Harwell, of Smyrna, Tennessee; Kenneth Dale (Lisa) Harwell, of Jacksonville, Florida; and their mother: Mary Weaver, of Fairdealing, Missouri; Randy (Todd) Montgomery, of Fredericktown, Missouri; and Jim Montgomery, of Green Ridge, Missouri; sister:  Carol Tarrance, of Patton, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends, including a special friend: Richard “Dick” Otte, and his wife, Evelyne.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. 

The family extends sincere appreciation and gratitude to the caregivers, doctor and nurses involved in Jim’s care.
