James Edward Norman

ELLSINORE — James Edward Norman, son of Jimmy Leon Norman and the late Betty Lee (Pinkerton) Norman, was born Oct. 13, 1972 in Naples, Italy, and departed this life on Nov. 23, 2019. He had attained the age of forty-seven years, one month and ten days.

James recently relocated to Scott City to be close to his significant other and was formerly of Cape Girardeau. He was of the Christian faith. His patriotism is proven by his proud service to this country in the United States Navy from April 5, 1994 to April 11, 1996.

James valued education and knowledge, obtaining his Associate’s degree from Three Rivers College, and his Bachelor of Science in Art Education on May 11, 2019 at Southeast Missouri State University. He leaves behind a bright career as an Art Educator at Leopold School, a position he dearly enjoyed. He was intelligent, curious, thoughtful, and held membership in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

As a young person, his years in the Scouts built in him a love of the outdoors, exploration and discovery. As a devoted, protective father, he shared that love with his treasured children and grandchildren. James was a talented artist with awards and accolades, and loved learning new techniques and points of view. This was reflected in his love of painting, drawing, pottery and traveling. James was deeply loving, kind-hearted, compassionate, protective, intelligent and creative, and always happy to help others. The light of his smile, the glee in his giggle and his warm bear hugs will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his loving father and stepmother, Jimmy Leon Norman and Bonnie Norman of Grandin; his devoted significant other Emily Booth of Scott City, Mo; two beloved sons, Thomas Norman and fiancée Samantha Miller of Grandin and Lance Norman of Sedalia, Mo; one precious daughter, Bailey Nicole Norman of Sedalia, Mo; two dear brothers, Jason Allen Norman and wife, Jamie of Sedalia, Mo. and Guy Durham of Warrenton, Mo; one sister, Stephanie Durham of Collinsville, Ill; one granddaughter, Aryella Norman; one nephew, Tanner Durham; six nieces, Taylor Woolery, Katelyn Norman, Tiffany Durham, Trinity Durham, Trista Durham and Heaven Durham and many, many relatives, colleagues and friends who mourn his passing.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the James E. Norman Art Scholarship fund. Proceeds will fund a scholarship for Leopold School Art students to continue in their creative endeavors in James’ honor and memory.

A visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019 at 6 p.m. at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellsinore with the funeral services being held on Dec. 7 at noon in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Whites Mill Cemetery in Ellsinore.
