James Henry Douglas, 79, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, left this world for home at 4:18 a.m. Sunday, June 5, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife and children. James Henry Douglas, 79, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, left this world for home at 4:18 a.m. Sunday, June 5, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Mr. Douglas was born Jan.10, 1943 at Snider Ditch in Poplar Bluff. He attended school in Fisk-Rombauer. He served in the United States Army from 1960-1966 and was a proud American and Army Veteran.

Mr. Douglas became an ironworker in 1967 with the Local 395 and remained a member. He also was a farmer and in 1976 started Douglas Construction which later became known as Foothill Irrigation. James was an avid hunter and fisherman. He attended Hamtown church in Poplar Bluff.

He loved playing with his grandkids and had a special bond with his great-grandson, Brycen.

On July 14, 1966, he married his sweetheart, Norma Jean Gallamore Thompson. She survives. Also surviving are six children: James Henry Douglas, Jr. of Corona, California, James Phillip (Leedawn) Douglas of Peace Valley, Missouri, Timmy Wayne (Jamie) Douglas, Kimberly Irene (Marty) Snider, and Dennis Ray (Shelly) Douglas, and Lisa Jane Teague, all of Poplar Bluff; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Joan (Kenny) Francis of Wappapello, Missouri, and Barb (Lanny) Regan of Granite City, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert Henry and Martha Jane (Griffey) Douglas; and one sister: Jean Province.

Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2022 at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Hassel Hensley officiating. Burial will follow at Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Bloomfield.
