Born October 9, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Went to be with the Lord on March 28, 2021.
Jim loved Jesus. He started his ministry as a Presbyterian pastor in Iowa in 1955. On August 24, 1958 he wed the second love of his life, Bonnie, (Jesus is first, of course!). In 1959, their daughter, Sarah was born; followed by their son, Paul in 1960. In 1962, they moved to Poplar Bluff, Missouri where their second daughter, Martha was born in 1963.
They spent 25 years as the Pastor and wife of the First United Presbyterian Church. During many of those years, he taught Philosophy at Three Rivers Community College. With great joy and sorrow, the Lord moved Jim and Bonnie into an interim ministry throughout Montana, Colorado, Wyoming and Arizona. After attempting to retire several times, Jim finally retired in 2011. In 2014, Jim and Bonnie moved to Waverly, Kansas.
Jim loved to preach, teach and mentor. He also loved people and spending time with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and his ability to tease earned him the name “Ornery.” He enjoyed eating ice cream, fishing, camping and just being outdoors.
Early on Palm Sunday morning, Jim went to be with the Lord. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, Paul (wife, Christine); daughter, Martha (husband, Daniel); four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Jim’s memorial service will be a Witness to the Resurrections and a Celebration of Faith and Life. It will be held on June 19 at 10 a.m. in the Waverly United Methodist Church, 407 W 4th Street, Waverly KS 66871.
Memorial donations can be made to Habitat for Humanity, 322 W Lamar Street, Americus GA 31709-3543.
