Eugene “Jack” Hart Mattox, 87, of Poplar Bluff, passed away peacefully Friday, June 26, 2020, at his home.
Jack was born Nov. 14, 1932, in Jackson, Mississippi, to the late Wilson and Ruth Mattox. He married Margaret Kelley on June 27, 1997.
Jack was a faithful member of Mount Calvary Powerhouse Church. He was very respected in his community and a mentor to many young men and women. He was the head custodian for Poplar Bluff Junior High School for many years. He later started Jax’s Janitorial Service with his wife.
Jack is survived by his wife, Margaret Kelley; three sons, Eugene A. Hart, Christopher H. Mattox (Dolores), Jeffrey L. Hart (Stacey); two daughters, Dementrice Griffin (Ken), Laura Hudgins; one stepson, Eric Wheat (Christine); two sisters, Evelyn V. Williams, Gladys Allen (Clyde); one brother, Max Mattox; 24 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by two daughters, Karen and Kimberly Hart.
Jack’s final wish was to be cremated. There will be no memorial service.
