POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Hollis Wayne Hovis, 74, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., rode his motorcycle into the sunset Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019 in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Hollis, the son of the late Preston Alexander and Nancy Marie Inman Hovis, was born June 22, 1944 in Wayne County, Mo. He was of the Protestant faith, and had retired after 29 years as a lineman for the City of Poplar Bluff. Hollis was a member of Poplar Bluff Elks Club, Poplar Bluff Eagles and Wappapello Eagles Clubs and was an Eagle Rider. He loved spending time with his family and friends and traveling across the United States on his motorcycle.

Hollis married Peggy Joan Guinn on Dec. 22, 1962 in Fredericktown, Mo. She preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 2010. On Dec. 14, 2018, he married Patty Ann Rowe in Corning, Ark. She survives.

Survivors include his beloved daughter, Cynthia Lynn “Cindy” Hovis Gaebler and her husband Tim of Poplar Bluff; three grandchildren, David Gaebler, Colter Gaebler and his wife Shelly and Alex Gaebler; two brothers, Carl Hovis and Randy Hovis; a sister, Joyce Torres; an uncle, Dale Inman; nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Rachel, Shawn, Donnette, Shannon, and Cami; and a host of other family and friends and beloved poodle, Sophie.

Hollis was also preceded in death by his nephew, Corey.
