Helen Louise Qualls, 88, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Slater, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo.
Born Feb. 27, 1929 in Doniphan, Helen was the daughter of the late Lula and W.D. Marsh. She was a graduate of Naylor High School and was the class salutatorian. On Feb. 24, 1948, she married Jeff D. Qualls who preceded her in death, Sept. 24, 1972. She worked for years at Poplar Bluff Savings and Loan and at Guaranty Federal in Springfield as a loan officer. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Marshall, Mo. and a member of the Dorcas Sunday School class.
Survivors include three daughters: Mary Hoffman (Chris) of Springfield, Mo., Kathy Whitlock (Harry) of Slater, Mo., and Patricia Hickman (Lonnie) of Poplar Bluff, Mo.;
11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one sister, Georgia Estelle Hawkins, of Pittsburg, Kan.; special niece, Linda Knox (Kerry) of Lampe, Mo. and several nieces and nephews.
Helen was also preceded in death by her son, Paul Qualls, two brothers: Edward and Cordell, and three sisters: Pearl, Myrtle and Velma, in infancy.
Helen was known as "Granny" to her family. She was a wonderful cook and baker and enjoyed preparing treats for everyone. She was adored by her family and always treasured the time she spent with them.
Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 25, 2017 at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Michael Parris officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens in Poplar Bluff.
