Hearthel Lorain Miler, 95, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022.

Hearthel was born on Jan. 23, 1927, to Sylvester and Eunice (Mullins) Thurston in Lowndes, Missouri. She married Lloyd Orval Miler on Dec. 5, 1942, in Wayne County, Missouri.

Hearthel was a league bowler and traveled all over the Unites States competing. She won awards and was a distinguished member of the bowling hall of fame. Hearthel was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

She was a charter and lifetime member of the Wayne County Extension Club. She was involved with auxiliary units, VFW, and Civil Defense. She was a long-time volunteer at the VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff. Hearthel was a dedicated member of Cross Roads General Baptist Church. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, playing the piano in church, and helping wherever she was needed.

She had a unique and spunky personality, bringing smiles and laughter to all those she encountered. She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandma, sister, and friend to many.

Hearthel is survived by two children, Brenda Douglas and Frederick (Edna “Faye”) Miler; one sister, Joyce Jeanne Miler; four grandchildren, Soncire (Thomas) Pitts, Robby (Michelle) Miler (Michelle), Lakota Myers, and Davida (Miguel) Douglas; five great-grandchildren, Maxwell Douglas, Brett Miler, Hannah Myers, Zachary Miler, and Rebekah Myers; one great-great-grandchild, Lucas Miler; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Hearthel was preceded in death by husband, Lloyd Orval Miler; one brother, Johnny Thurston; three sisters, Fern Haddock, Betty Miler, and Carolyn Shirrell.

Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services. We will then travel to Cross Roads General Baptist Church near Greenville, Missouri where a short visitation will be held at 11:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service beginning at noon. Burial will take place at the Cross Roads Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Lloyd.
