George E. Gibson, 79, of Dexter, Mo., passed away on Feb. 15, 2018 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 16, 1938 to Hughie and Mae (Chester) Gibson of Neelyville, Mo. George served as a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy and received numerous honors and medals for his years of service. He started his career in the Navy as a Jet Engine Mechanic and served on 24 different Naval ships throughout his military service...

George E. Gibson, 79, of Dexter, Mo., passed away on Feb. 15, 2018 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

He was born on July 16, 1938 to Hughie and Mae (Chester) Gibson of Neelyville, Mo. George served as a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy and received numerous honors and medals for his years of service. He started his career in the Navy as a Jet Engine Mechanic and served on 24 different Naval ships throughout his military service.

On Feb. 10, 1984 he married Wilma Webb and they resided in Dexter, Mo. He enjoyed spending his free time with the love of his life, Wilma, they enjoyed wildlife as well as gardening.

George is survived by his loving spouse, Wilma; two brothers, Hughie (Buddy) Gibson of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Charles Gibson of Kokoma, Ind.; one nephew, Steve Gibson of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; one niece, Katheia Corrigan of Cape Girardeau, Mo; his step-son, Mike Garcia of Waterford, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Curtis Gibson and Ancil (Shorty) Gibson; and one sister.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018 from 9 - 10 a.m. at Moore Funeral Service in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Funeral services will be immediately following visitation at 10 a.m. in the Moore Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will take place in the Bloomfield Veteran's Cemetery.
