David “Gene” Eugene Pennington, 78, of Neelyville, Missouri, passed away, Feb. 19, 2022, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 22, 1943, at Neelvyille, Missouri, to Arvel Pennington and Lucy “Delaney” Pennington.
On Oct. 10, 2020, at Harviell, Missouri, he was married to Pat Fisher. She survives.
Also surviving: children, Jeff Pennington of Knoxville, Tennessee, Joey Pennington and wife, Stephanie, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Gina McComb and husband, Troy, of Collinsville, Illinois, John Pennington and wife, Suzy, of Sikeston, Missouri, Kim Hicks, and Charles of Harviell, Missouri, Pam Stucker and Ralph of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Dale Fisher and Patty of Harviell and Dean Fisher and Renee of Harviell, Missouri. Also surviving are his mother; Lucy Pennington; sisters, Thelma Dunlap of Charleston, Missouri, Mary Lou Moore and George of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Tink Pennington of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Ellen Shands of Harviell, Missouri; two brothers, Charles Pennington and Frances of Neelyville, Missouri, and Gary Pennington and Pat of Harviell, Missouri, as well as nineteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arvel Pennington, on Sept. 25, 2007.
Gene had served in the United States Army and was a senior paratrooper in the 503rd INF BN, 173rd AIRBORNE in Okinawa and Vietnam. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Harviell, and owned Pennington Trucking.
He enjoyed Fishing, gardening, working, and spending time with his family and working.
Visitation for Gene will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, with the funeral at 10 a.m. Wednesday, all in the Fowler and Sons Funeral Home of Neelyville. Burial will be in the Kinsey Cemetery with Pastor Tim Freeman officiating, assisted by Ron Daughhetee.
