DONIPHAN, Mo. -- "Gene" Leonard Eugene Freeman Sr, 88, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at The Manor in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Mr. Freeman was born Aug. 8, 1929, in Ripley County, to the late Thomas Victor and Nova Eden (Wren) Freeman. He was self-employed in the Timber and Farming industry. Mr. Freeman enjoyed taking care of his dogs, gardening, reading, watching Westerns on television.
On Sept. 20, 1948, he was married to June Louise Sneathren in St. Louis. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2009.
He is survived by six children: Tim Freeman and Junior Freeman, both of Poplar Bluff, Pat (Larry) Mayfield of Millersville, Rose (Roger) Cochran and Billy (John) Koonce, both of Poplar Bluff, and Elvis (Becky) Freeman of Mercer, Mo.; 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and special cousins, Ed and Marsh Holden of Fairdealing.
Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, all of his brothers and sisters he was the last of his generation, and three children Tom Freeman, Janet Maddux and Robin Freeman.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018, at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018, at the Kern's Chapel with Tim Freeman Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Freeman Cemetery.
