Gary Harlan Lewis, 74, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Mo.
He was born March 27, 1944, to William and Louise (Welch) Lewis in Holcomb, Mo. He served in Naval Intelligence during the Vietnam War. He graduated from SIU - Edwardsville with a Bachelor's in English and Southeast Missouri State with a Bachelor's in Science in Education. Gary worked for the Veterans' Administration for several years. Later, he taught English at Poplar Bluff High School.
On Feb. 14, 1969, he married Barbara Clapper in Roxana, Ill.
He enjoyed cooking, traveling, camping, and working on the family farm. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Gary is survived by his loving spouse of 49 years, Barbara of Poplar Bluff; three children, Craig (Abby) Lewis of Farmington, Mo., Geoffrey Lewis and Kerry Lewis, both of Poplar Bluff; his brother, Barry Lewis, and sister, Debbie Lewis, both of Broseley, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will hold a private service.
