Elsie Reva Walters, 94, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017, at The Manor. Mrs. Walters, the oldest of eight children of the late Thurman Laroy and Sue Beatrice (Haynes) Rodgers, was born Nov. 25, 1922, in New Madrid, Mo. Elsie Reva Walters, 94, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017, at The Manor.

Mrs. Walters, the oldest of eight children of the late Thurman Laroy and Sue Beatrice (Haynes) Rodgers, was born Nov. 25, 1922, in New Madrid, Mo.

She was a member of Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center, where she served as secretary of the church, choir director and a Sunday School teacher.

For 39 years she worked as a supervisor registered nurse at Doctors Hospital before retiring in 2008. Mrs. Walters enjoyed her church, family, taking care of others and playing the violin and guitar.

On Sept. 30, 1939, she married Joseph H. Walters in New Madrid. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1991.

Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Ann (Willard) Smith of Cape Girardeau, Rita E. Walters of Poplar Bluff and Patricia (Larry) Bobo of Lilbourn; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Eugene Rodgers of Ala., and several nieces and nephews.

Three children, Gloria Jean Evans, Joseph Wayne Walters and Rodger Michael Walters, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

The visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center, with the funeral service following at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ted Elledge officiating and the Rev. Jerry Williams assissting.
