Donald Clay Inman, 86, of Clinton, Mississippi, formerly of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away peacefully at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi on Thursday morning, Oct. 19th, 2017. Donald was born on Nov. 2, 1930 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Donald Clay Inman, 86, of Clinton, Mississippi, formerly of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away peacefully at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi on Thursday morning, Oct. 19th, 2017.

Donald was born on Nov. 2, 1930 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Andrew Inman and Eunice Myra (Rowland) Inman. One sister Betty Jean Inman also preceded him in death.

He was married to Peggy Sue Mitchell who preceded him in death. Don later married Sandra Faye Hull in Durant, Miss. She survives.

He served 38 years of honorable service to his country serving on active duty and the MO National Guard. Started his military career as an enlisted man achieving the rank of sergeant first class then completed officer training school where he became a commissioned officer achieving the rank of 1st lieutenant. During his military career he held several jobs, infantry forward scout observer, military police and operation and intelligence specialist. He was decorated eight times and assigned to serve in the Dessert Storm Conflict. He was a true American hero

After retirement, he did missionary work in Belize where he helped to educate underprivileged children, including his friend David Escabar. Don loved helping others and also loved genealogy. He enjoyed sharing information at family get-togethers from his most recent visits to read headstones or family trees.

Don was also a retired school teacher, having taught at several one room schools in this area during the early to late 1950s. These included Davidson, Pike Slough and Lone Hill. He moved to Mississippi and continued to teach at Bolton, Miss. until his retirement.

Don owned and operated the "Donald-Howard" restaurant in Durant, Mississippi in the late 1960s and 1970s. He also was involved as a Boy Scout Leader at that time.

Don is survived by two daughters, Donna Sue Inman Zauss of Poplar Bluff and Tammy Inman Rutland of Jaycess, Mississippi; one son David Joel Inman of Clinton, Mississippi; six grandchildren, Kim Robinson, David Zauss and Stacy Bame of Missouri and Victoria Morris, Courtney Morris and Cody Inman of Mississippi; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his twin brother, Howard Ray Inman of Festus, Missouri as well as brothers, Dewey Inman and Hughey Inman of Poplar Bluff and two sisters, Ruth Ann Knodell also of Poplar Bluff and Mary Burris of St. Louis.

Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel with the funeral service following at 1:30 p.m. Interment with full military honors will be at 3 p.m. at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.
