MALDEN, Mo. - Delbert Anthony Dees, 91 of Malden, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Dees, son of James Franklin and MaryJo Redmond Dees, was born on Friday, Sept. 18, 1925 in Wilhelmina, Mo.
He was a local business owner and a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Malden
Delbert joined the Navy in 1942 at the age of 17 and was on the USS Chicago when it was torpedoed in the South Pacific on Jan. 29, 1943. He sustained substantial injuries and received honorable discharge from the United States Navy and was awarded the Purple Heart. Upon returning home he married his grade school sweetheart, Louise Mayberry Feb. 28, 1945 in Piggott, Ark., which he met in the fifth grade. She preceded him in death Aug. 15, 2015.
They were blessed with three sons, Delbert L. Dees and wife Mary of San Jose, Calif., Linn F. Dees of Malden and Larry E. Dees and wife, Kay of High Ridge, Mo.; two grandchildren, Rusty Dees of Phoenix, Ariz., Debbie Brady of Springfield, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Sean Brady, Kayla Brady, Emmett Brady, Elizabeth Dees and Emily Dees; two sisters, Mary Knott and Betty Christian both of St. Louis; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Boyce Dees, Adrian Dees, James Dees and two infant siblings.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden. Funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m. at the St. Ann Catholic Church in Malden with Father William Hennecke officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery-Landess Addition in Campbell.
