David William Albers, 86, passed into eternal life on Sunday, February 7, 2021 in Poplar Bluff. He was born April 18, 1934, to Charles Henry and Gladys (Moreland) Albers in Evanston, Illinois.

On November 16, 1957, he married the love of his life Martha Frances Garner, who survives. Dave and Martha were blessed with a love that grew deeper and sweeter with each year and their commitment to each other was an inspiration to their four children and all those who know them.

David ‘Dave’ Albers graduated from Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, Illinois and went on to earn his Master’s degree at University of Colorado, Boulder. After working briefly in Boulder and then Memphis, Tennessee, he returned with Martha to Poplar Bluff in 1962 to establish a CPA firm bearing his name from which he retired in approximately 1991. Honesty and integrity were a hallmark of his work.

In his early years, Dave was active locally in the civic clubs Kiwanis and Rotary and assisted with Boy Scouts. He was a lifelong member of Audubon, knowing and faithfully caring for every species of bird that visited his feeder. Dave was, throughout his life, an avid hunter. He was committed to habitat restoration, reflected in his lifelong support of Ducks Unlimited. He recently assisted in founding the local chapter of Quail Forever. Dave was a founding member of the Poplar Bluff Gun Club, where he was a lifetime member. He was an excellent marksman and a lifetime member of NRA. Finally, Dave was a talented and artistic wood carver and loved working in his yard, especially his flowers. Most importantly, Dave was a man committed to his faith and to his family. Fellowship Baptist Church has been a spiritual home for him and Martha, and the loving fellowship of the people there has been a gift. Dave has been a generous and faithful Christian steward his whole life. He was a devoted husband and father, and his commitment to his family was unwavering and strong. We give thanks for the gift of his earthly journey and know that he now lives in the wholeness and joy of God.
