Curtis Wayne Staten, 74, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, formerly of O’Fallon, Missouri, passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020, at his home.
Curt, the son of the late Jerl “Bud” and Wilma (Vermilye) Staten, was born May 8, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan. When he was young, the family moved to St. Louis, then later to Wentzville. Curt graduated from Francis Howell High School in 1964. He worked for 36 years at General Motors, where he was a proud member and Union Stewart for UAW Local 2250.
After retiring, Curt and his wife, Sharon, moved to Poplar Bluff to enjoy the peace and serenity of country life. He loved to watch sports, especially the St., Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed deer hunting, playing cards and socializing with friends and family. Curt loved to take donuts and visit with the veterans at the VA Hospital. He always made sure the American flag was flying in his yard at half-staff when necessary. Curt was a member of the Elks Lodge 2452 and a founding member and longtime officer of his homeowner’s association.
Curt is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Sharon (Lampe) Staten; son, Anthony ‘Tony’ Jaggie of Poplar Bluff; daughter, Tonya (Staten) Ford of Columbia, Missouri; and grandsons, Joshua Jaggie and Max Wolff. Curt is also survived by his siblings: Patsy (Joe) Lamb of Wentzville, Paul (Barbara) Staten of Monkey Island, Oklahoma, Sandy (Jim) Hankins of O’Fallon, Brenda Schneider of St. Charles, Debbie (Jack) Vick of Bloomington, Illinois, Cynthia (Olen) Wood of Atlanta, Georgia, Tom (Freeda) Staten of Poplar Bluff and Ron (Cynthia) Staten of Beebe, Arkansas; plus countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Curt was loved by his friends and family. He will be missed.
No services are scheduled at this time. Memorial donations can be made in Curt’s honor to the American Lung Association.
