Charles “Bernie” Bernelle Elliott, 73 of Poplar Bluff, passed away Monday, Aug. 17, 2020, at his residence. Bernie, the son of the late Joseph and Roberta (Winter) Elliott, was born Jan. 21, 1947, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was a member of New Covenant Fellowship Church. Charles “Bernie” Bernelle Elliott, 73 of Poplar Bluff, passed away Monday, Aug. 17, 2020, at his residence.

Bernie, the son of the late Joseph and Roberta (Winter) Elliott, was born Jan. 21, 1947, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was a member of New Covenant Fellowship Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was an x-ray technician. Bernie enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing golf and vacations.

On Aug. 3, 1981, he married Shirley Elizabeth Mondy in Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death July 17, 2018.

Survivors include three children, Charles, B. (Dawn) Elliott II of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Shawn (Camille) Boyer of Poplar Bluff, and Dr. Joseph (Jancee) Schuerger of Seguin, Texas; 12 grandchildren; a brother, David Elliott of New Port Richey, Florida, two sisters, Wendy Daniels of Wilmington, North Carolina and Tami Shelton of B.S.L. Southport, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth (Kenny) Elliott; and a brother, Bill Elliott.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. A graveside service with full military honors will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Moore will officiate.

All services require a face covering and social distancing when possible.
