Carl Eugene Sanders, 85, of Poplar Bluff, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020 at his residence surrounded by family.
Mr. Sanders was born July 22, 1935 in Dexter, Missouri, son of the late William Alvis and Halycon Sanders. Carl was a member of Fellowship General Baptist Church where he was a deacon and a trustee for many years. He was an active member of the Faithful Second Milers Sunday School Class.
He was also the BSA leader for Troop 60 of Fellowship General Baptist Church for many years, and he held several other leadership roles for the Southeast District and Greater St. Louis Council. Carl loved God, his family and his church. He loved people and he always greeted others with a smile, a firm handshake or a hug. He retired from the Missouri State Highway Department, Division 10 in 1995. He also enjoyed traveling, camping, visiting with family and friends, and working in his workshop.
On July 22, 1955, he married Rosemary Phillips. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Carlotta Gail (Keith) Luke and Cindy (Jim) McIver, both of Poplar Bluff; two sisters: Maxine Vaughn of Bloomfield, Missouri and Helen (Marvel) White of Bigfork, Montana; three granddaughters: Melinda (Daniel) Smith, Lydia Jean (Adam) Vandiver, and MaKala Page McIver; four great-grandchildren: Carlee Grace Smith, Payson Rose Vandiver, Sawyer Jade Vandiver, and Laynee Kate Vandiver, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by one daughter: Phyllis Gean Sanders.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020 at Fellowship General Baptist Church. A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. with Rev.
