Carl Eugene James, 73, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Westwood Hills Health Care Center in Poplar Bluff.
He was born Jan. 12, 1944 to Carl and Lottie Lorene (Gabriel) James in Poplar Bluff. Carl graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1961. After high school, he obtained his associates degree from Three Rivers College in 1970, his Bachelor's Degree from Arkansas State University in 1972, and his Master's Degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 1974.
Carl worked as a school teacher for East Carter School District for over 30 years and retired in 2004. After retirement, he continued as a substitute teacher for the East Carter School District.
Carl enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid gardener and loved traveling with close friends.
He was a member of Missouri State Teachers Association.
Carl is survived by one sister, Marilyn Y. Dodge of Poplar Bluff; one nephew, Perry L. Dodge of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three nieces: Laura Harris of Loganville, Ga., Lisa Powers of Rosharon, Texas, and Melanie Mossman of Poplar Bluff.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Jerry James.
Visitation will be held from 10 -11 a.m., Friday, June 2, 2017 at Moore Funeral Service in Poplar Bluff. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 2, 2017, in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff. Officiating will be Mark North.
