Carl J. Ellsworth, 92, of Fisk, Missouri, passed away in his sleep on Nov. 19, 2022 in Illinois, where he resided for the past 11 years.

Carl was born on June 19, 1930 in Bartonville, Illinois to the late William David Ellsworth and Martha Ionia (Boone) Ellsworth.

He was a proud veteran of the Korean War, and for his brave service he earned a Purple Heart. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of sergeant.

Carl’s footprint will remain for generations to come. He worked on large projects as a railroader and Union Pipeliner for many years. Beyond that, his true passion was farming, which he did for 60-plus years.

He was an active community member, a loyal friend, and beloved family member. We will all remember Carl as a dog-loving farmer who lived with a stubbornly strong spirit. He had a big heart full of cheer, humor, pride, and kindness.

He is preceded in death by his father; mother; brother, David Fairrel Elsworth Sr.; and a nephew.

Carl is survived by his sister-in-law; six nieces and nephews; 16 grand-nieces and -nephews; and over 30 great-grand-nieces and -nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022 at the American Legion at 2320 Kanell Blvd. in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2022 at Stanfield Cemetery on County Road 324 in Clarkton, Missouri.

In remembrance of Carl’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to local animal shelters, as well as to the American Lung Association and American Heart Association.
