FISK, Mo. -- Betty Jane Runyon, 88, formerly of Poplar Bluff, died Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Bluegrass Terrace, in Ashland, Mo. Mrs. Runyon, daughter of the late Robert and Clara Belle Hamilton, was born Feb. 9, 1929 in Pottsville, Ark..
She was a member of the South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church. Betty started teaching Sunday school as a teenager, continuing well into her eighties. She met the Rev. Edwin Runyon at Oakland City College, Ind. and they were wed March 16, 1947 at Trailer's Chapel Church near Pollard, Ark. They formed the ultimate team for over sixty years, tirelessly ministering to those in need. He preceded her in death, Dec. 11, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her son, John Runyon.
She is survived by two sons: Carl Runyon of Owensboro, Ky. and Bob and Sue Runyon of Hartsburg, Mo; John's widow, Dinah of Evansville, Ind; two brothers: Garland Hamilton of Fredericktown, Mo, and Bill Hamilton of Poplar Bluff; two sisters: Dean Morse of Poplar Bluff and Jean Hager of Mehlville, Mo; five grandchildren: Dustin, Kristen, Danielle, Wade, and Toby Runyon; and two great-grandchildren: Samantha and Franklin.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at1 p.m. at the church with Rev. Jim Hillyer and Craig Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in the Ash Hill Cemetery at Fisk.
