Bessie Beatrice Lawson Richey, 107, formerly of Poplar Bluff, passed from this life on April 13, 2018 at the Williard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born in Eaton, Ark., Oct. 7, 1910, one of 10 children born to the late James Clinton and Margaret Melissa Snider Lawson. She attended Old Lebanon School and married George Brooks Richey in 1927. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1997...

Bessie Beatrice Lawson Richey, 107, formerly of Poplar Bluff, passed from this life on April 13, 2018 at the Williard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville, Ark.

She was born in Eaton, Ark., Oct. 7, 1910, one of 10 children born to the late James Clinton and Margaret Melissa Snider Lawson. She attended Old Lebanon School and married George Brooks Richey in 1927. He preceded her in death on May 15, 1997.

Mr. and Mrs. Richey were farmers in Southeast Missouri from 1930 to 1961. When they retired they made their home in Poplar Bluff. In 2006, Mrs. Richey moved to Dexter to be closer to family members who could help care for her.

At age 102, Mrs. Richey could no longer live alone and moved to Brookstone Assisted Living in Fayetteville, Ark., near her youngest daughter.

Mrs. Richey was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ and a part of the Green Forest congregation from 1961 until 2006.

She was a quilter and made hundreds of quilts for her family, church family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking and especially was known for making peanut brittle.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Richey was preceded in death by a son, Randy Richey; two sons-in-law, Fred Seesengood and Dale Grissom; a grandson, Duane Richey; and three grandchildren-in-law, Willie Sandlin, Debbie Richey and Bill Glasgow.

She is survived by seven children: GB (Euleen) Richey and Eulah Richey Grissom, of Dexter, Mo.; Harold (Louise) Richey of Point Blank, Texas; James (Rosemarry) of Mountain Home, Ark.; daughter-in-law, Valerie Richey of San Marcos, Texas; Elbert (Sarah) Richey of Finger, Tenn.; Carolyn (Bob) Seesengood of Harrison, Ark and Sharon (Jim) Olmstead of Lowell, Ark.

Services are scheduled at 2 p.m. at the Green Forest Church of Christ Thursday, April 19, 2018, visitation will be held at 1 p.m.
