Armel Spivey, Jr., 92, previously of Route 9, Poplar Bluff, Mo. died Aug. 18, 2018, in his recent home in Hagerstown, Md. Armel was born March 21, 1926 at Orriville, Ill. His profession was a linotype operator for newspapers and printing/publishing presses in and around southern Missouri, Illinois and Michigan. Armel Spivey, Jr., 92, previously of Route 9, Poplar Bluff, Mo. died Aug. 18, 2018, in his recent home in Hagerstown, Md.

Armel was born March 21, 1926 at Orriville, Ill. His profession was a linotype operator for newspapers and printing/publishing presses in and around southern Missouri, Illinois and Michigan. Armel and his wife, Betty Jo (Bacon), first met while working at the Sikeston newspaper, in 1949, as they set type and printed the area phone book.

For many years Armel was an involved member of the Poplar Bluff Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Armel is survived by seven children: Kathryn Gravell of Hagerstown, Md., Armel Lynn Spivey of Spokane, Wash., Greg Spivey of Amarillo, Texas, Wayne Spivey of Ardmore, Okla., Tracy Spivey of Lincoln, Neb., Cynthia Humphrey of Poplar Bluff, and Brian Spivey of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Sandra Weston of Killeen, Texas, and Linda Herzog of Poplar Bluff; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for the summer of 2019 for family and friends to be able to meet in Poplar Bluff. Armel will be buried in the Black Creek Cemetery next to his wife, Betty Jo Spivey.
