Archileus “Arkie” Tomerlin, age 93, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2020, at his residence.

Mr. Tomerlin was born Nov. 30, 1926 in Broseley, Missouri, to the late David and Audria Tomerlin. On June 1, 1947 he married Berniece Layton; she survives.

Arkie was a member of Fellowship General Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. He coached high school basketball for several years at Fisk and Parma, and was also the district administrator for the Missouri Division of Health.

He is also survived by two sons: Jerry (Sara) Tomerlin of Ozark, Missouri, and Kent (Candace) Tomerlin of Poplar Bluff; one son in law: Bill Rappe; five grandchildren: Lorna Hill, William and Chris Rappe, Michelle Taurone, and Tyler Tomerlin; and four great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter: Jana Rappe; four brothers: Bill, Ben, Leroy and Gene Tomerlin, and one sister: Alice Pearlman.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020, at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Byron Beck, Dr. Leland Duncan and Rev. Ernie Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Brown Chapel Cemetery in Broseley.
