Alita Maria Browning, 68, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022, at her residence in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
She was born Nov.13, 1953, in New Orleans, Louisiana to James and Annie Brumley.
Alita grew up in Poplar Bluff. She graduated in 1973 from Poplar Bluff Senior High School. She attended cosmetology school for a short time. She worked at K-Mart and C&F Auto Salvage but spent many years as a stay-at-home mom.
Alita married Chris Browning Feb. 23, 1974, in Poplar Bluff. They were married for 46 years. She enjoyed time with family, cooking, sewing, horse riding, and making books on the family tree.
Alita is survived by her husband, Chris Browning; daughter, Stephanie (Paul) Pruess of Poplar Bluff; sister, Margaret (Ron) Franklin of Manhattan Beach, California; two grandsons, Lucas, and Charlie Pruess of Poplar Bluff; two brothers-in-laws, Greg (Mimi) Browning and Leonard Browning; two sisters-in-law, Erma (David) Suttner and Marie Briggs; special nieces and nephew, Melissa Mathis, Michelle Root, Linda (Raul) Rojas and Richard Sedgwick; along with many other nieces and nephews.
Alita is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Anita Tanksley and Ann Adams; and one brother-in-law, Jack Briggs.
A public celebration of life gathering will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022, at the South Poplar Bluff General Baptist Church from 2-3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please bring your favorite story of Alita to share.
