Residents can expect periodic lane closures and temporarily narrower lanes when work starts Monday on sidewalk improvements for sections of Pine Street and South Westwood Boulevard.
Weather permitting, work will be completed Sept. 18, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.
A crosswalk with a pedestrian light also will be added at the stoplight in front of Walmart Supercenter, said David Wyman, MoDOT area engineer.
Contractors have said work will start on Westwood and move to Pine, according to Wyman.
Sections of a one-mile stretch of Pine will be temporarily reduced to one lane as sidewalks on both sides of the road are replaced between Westwood Boulevard to B Street. This road will also have 10-foot width restriction.
The width restriction would include oversized loads, which require a special permit, Wyman said.
Portions of South Westwood Boulevard will also be reduced to one lane temporarily as work is done on the east sidewalks, from Maya's Mexican restaurant to Cherry Street.
Residents could also see lane closures on South Westwood Boulevard between Pine and Highway 53 as some addition corrections are made to ramps and other portions of the road, according to Wyman.
CE Contracting Inc., of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., won an approximately $1.2 million contract to do sidewalk work here, as well as in Campbell and Caruthersville.
The projects are part of a statewide effort to improve accessibility under the highway department's Americans with Disabilities Act Transition Plan. Similar projects also have been completed in Gideon, Malden, Holcomb and Kennett.
