The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake, along with its partners announce the following free special events that will be taking place at Wappapello Lake during the months of May and June. Partners include: Wappapello Lake Area Association (WLAA), SEMO Regional Water Safety Council, Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), Mingo Job Corps, local businesses and volunteers.

June 2 - Jack Miller Memorial Kids Fun Day (8 - 11 a.m.)

Fishing activities, archery, air riddle range and a cookout. The event is for children 5 - 14 years of age. We provide all the fishing equipment except for fish containers or stringers. Pre-register by calling (573) 222-8562 or stop by the Management Office or Visitor Center. The event is held at Lost Creek Pond, take Highway D to Wayne County Road 523 and follow the signs.

June 9 - Endangered Wolf Center, from Eureka, Missouri (9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.)

Learn about the red wolf. With only 30 red wolves currently left in the wild, this Missouri and southeastern portion

of the United States native species desperately needs our help. You will learn what the Endangered Wolf Center is doing to help red wolves. Meet one of their animal ambassadors in person--a maned wolf. This program will be at the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center.

June 9 - Warm and Fuzzy (3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.)

Now is your chance to experience guest appearances by critters such as a black tailed prairie dog, silkie chicken, angora rabbit, pygmy goat, raccoon, chinchilla, snake and skink. This program will be at the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center.

June 16 Ranger Willie B. Safe's Birthday Bash (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.)

Ranger Willie B. Safe celebrates his 20th Birthday at the Redman Creek Recreation Area! Special guests have been invited such as Bobber the Water Safety Dog, Smokey Bear, Bucky Beaver and Puddles the Blue Goose. Participate in various fun safety games and activities that will be scheduled throughout the day. A lunch will be provided for the participants including cake and ice cream!

June 23 - Dickerson Park Zoo (1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.)

Day Shift, Night Shift and Garbage Gal. WHOOOO knows the difference between raptors that hunt during the night and those that are out during the day? YOUUUU will know several differences after you see and hear about three raptors from Dickerson Park Zoo. You will also learn about our very unusual raptor that doesn't have to catch its food. This program will be at the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center.

June 29 - Movie in the Park (Dusk)

Southern Bank partners with the US Army Corps of Engineers to bring this family oriented movie night to the Spillway Recreation Area. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. The movie is "Despicable Me 3". Southern Bank provides the movie and inflatable screen while Hays the Music Store provides the public address system. Southern Bank also provides one free drink and one free snack ticket to each person that attends, the tickets can be redeemed at the Wappapello Lake Area Association (WLAA) concession stand at the Spillway Recreation Area that night.

June 30 - Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks (9 a.m. - 10 p.m.)

Bring your lawn chair, family and friends and join us in celebrating Independence Day. There will be various activities, music and concessions available throughout the day at the Redman Creek Recreation Area. Fireworks display will begin at dusk.
