Wanda Sue Burkett, 74, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Wanda, the daughter of John William and Iva Gladys Walker Kanell, was born Aug. 13, 1947, in Poplar Bluff. She was of the Protestant faith and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Wanda loved being outdoors, whether taking care of her lawn, tending to her flowers, or just going for a walk. She also enjoyed going to yard sales and working crossword puzzles. Her greatest joy was her family especially her two granddaughters, her grandson, and helping those in need.
Wanda married the love of her life James A. Burkett on Jan. 28, 1973, in Poplar Bluff.
He survives.
Other survivors include her daughter Amber Hackworth and her husband Mark Hackworth, Jr. of Piedmont; two granddaughters, Haylee and Ashlee Hackworth; a grandson Cody Hackworth; two sisters, Fay Powell and Betty Pruitt both of Poplar Bluff; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, Claudie Kanell, Billie Kanell, Norman Kanell, Glenn Kanell, Vernon Kanell and Robert Kanell, and a brother-in-law Robert Powell.
The visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at Willow Ridge Funeral Chapel with the funeral service following at 11 a.m.
The Rev. Jim Schremp will officiate.
Burial will be at Fairdealing Cemetery.
