The hit country artist famous for songs like "Farmer's Daughter," and "It's America," will add a stop in Poplar Bluff to his February concert dates.
Rodney Atkins was announced this morning as the performer for the annual Valentines for Veterans concert to be held Feb. 15 at the Black River Coliseum. Tickets will be available to the public starting Jan. 3 at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center, the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce and the Black River Coliseum.
Robert Wake of the Wake Foundation, which helps sponsor the event, made the announcement with VA director Dr. Patricia Hall during an event at the VAMC.
February's concert is provided with no charge for tickets because the cost has already been paid by veterans, the VA says each year.
"A lot of these veterans feel like their service has been forgotten," said Wake, explaining this event helps recognize their service and is something veterans can share with their families. "It is just so awesome to see their reactions."
Atkins will be joined by Alabama native Tiera, who will open the show.
The event will start at 6 p.m. at the Coliseum.
Atkins returned to the music scene in early 2018, after a seven-year break.
His current tour has 15 upcoming stops, including C.B. Smith Park on Jan. 26 in Florida and The Filmore on Feb. 21 in Detroit.
Other iconic hits from the performer include "Take A Back Road" and "Cleaning this Gun."
Tiera has performed at many of the popular venues around Nashville including the Row, the Commodore Grill, returned trips to the Bluebird Cafe, and the Listening Room Cafe with the Song Suffragettes, according to a press release. She is working on new music at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals and appeared in the music competition show Real Country on the USA Network, winning her episode.
