The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff has given its 1,000th COVID-19 vaccination to Army Veteran Shelby Stroder.

Stroder is an 86-year-old Army veteran and one of five brothers – all of whom are veterans, according to a press release from the VA.

Said Stroder of the vaccination experience, “Everything was all good and well organized. I was treated well and went right on through.”

Mrs. Stroder added, “They did a super job – I was really impressed.”

“We will continue to administer vaccinations as long as we have the vaccine,” said Chief Nurse for Specialty Services and Daily Operations, Bailey Wells. “At this time, we are contacting veterans aged 75 and up to ask if they want to be vaccinated. Our supply has expanded, and we hope to be at 65 and up very soon. We will keep scheduling as long as we continue to receive vaccine, until all of our veterans who want to be vaccinated have been seen.”

Wells explained medical center staff are calling patients directly to schedule vaccination appointments, and there is no need for veterans to contact the medical center to inquire.
