One person is dead after a crash involving a train and a vehicle near the intersection of Highway B and County Road 620, east of Poplar Bluff.
The victim has been identified as Mark Arnold, 52, of Broseley. The crash occurred at 5:16 p.m.
“Troop E officers are on the scene of the crash involving a train,” Clark Parrott, of the Missouri State High Patrol confirmed Sunday evening. “There is one fatality from the passenger vehicle involved.”
The crash occurred as Arnold’s vehicle was traveling southbound and failed to yield to warning signals, according to a MSHP report released Monday. Signal devices at the track include a passive warning crossbucks.
Arnold was southbound in a 2000 Ford Expedition.
The Union Pacific train was eastbound.
Arnold was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:17 p.m. by Butler County Coroner Jim Akers. He is the sixth fatality in Troop E this year.
The train was driven from the scene. No injuries were reported on the train.
Parrott said the investigation into the deadly crash still is ongoing. He said the MSHP planned to “diagram the scene and possibly download the crash data recorder of the vehicle (and also) try to determine why the vehicle did not yield to the train.”
