BROSELEY - Two of the three school board members up for re-election in the Twin Rivers School District say they likely won’t seek new terms.

Filing for school board elections will be held from Dec. 6-27. The election is slated for April 4.

Terms are expiring for Jeff Arnold, Billy Watson and Josh Johnson, according to the district, which held a regular monthly board meeting Nov. 17.

Arnold, who has served two terms, said although he’s enjoyed his service and the position’s responsibilities, he won’t seek another three-year term.

Likewise, Billy Watson, a three-term, nine-year veteran, said he will bow out when his service expires.

“It’s been a great run,” Watson said. “I just think it’s time for new blood, new perspectives. That’s always a good thing.”

Johnson was absent Nov. 17, but board members said they expect he’ll remain an active board member and probably will seek another term.

Board members also discussed security upgrades during the meeting.

The district plans to add additional cameras to the 284 existing devices, hardware, software, cloud storage and installation. School officials said the existing system is at least 10 years old and was improved during that time.

A review of restroom upgrades throughout the district was also discussed, an expenditure of more than $40,000; technology modernization to existing security systems for increased student safety at Fisk, Qulin Elementary, Qulin Middle School and Twin Rivers High School at a projected cost of $161,939; budget mechanics and revenue streams; the upcoming Comprehensive School Improvement Plan; the purchase of audio systems for Qulin and Twin Rivers; remodeling or removal of a greenhouse building on the high school campus; the anticipated delivery in December of at least one new school bus at $117,000.

Most items were tabled until the board’s next meeting.

The American College Test (ACT) date, Dec. 10 at the high school was confirmed.

The Twin Rivers R-X School Board meets again at 3 p.m. Dec. 15 at Twin Rivers High School at Broseley.
