WILLIAMSVILLE — Two children were hurt, one seriously, in a one-vehicle accident Saturday evening at the intersection of Highway 172 and Highway W in southeastern Wayne County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Verda E. Peters, 27, of Parma was operating a 2011 Ford Fusion westbound at 5:25 p.m. when it ran off the road and struck a tree.

A seven-year-old girl in Peters’ vehicle suffered serious injuries, while an eight-year-old boy sustained moderate injuries. Both were transported via ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

At 6:45 p.m., Peters was arrested in Wayne County on suspicion of felony DWI resulting in physical injury. She was released for medical treatment.
