Board members for the Twin Rivers School District say money would be better spent on the removal and sale of a greenhouse structure, rather than trying to repair it.

The board met Thursday for their monthly meeting, also discussing repairs to a portion of the roof at Qulin, bids on a new camera security system and updating the intercom system at the Fisk campus.

There were previously intentions to repurpose the existing greenhouse structure, according to the discussion, but board members were in agreement money used to repair the structure would be better utilized in other areas.

“Someone will buy. It would be better to sell it than to pay someone to haul it off,” said board member Lee Wright.

The board unanimously voted to take bids on the removal and sale of the structure.

A portion of the roof at Qulin Elementary was also said to require repair, according to Superintendent Rob Brown.

“Money was already allocated for the repairs on the roof,” he said.

Wright suggested they take more bids on the project before deciding who will make the necessary repairs.

The Fisk campus was said to be in dire need of a new intercom system.

“The paging intercom system at Fisk is inoperable and outdated for sure,” said Brown.

The school has already requested quotes for these repairs and replacements. The board intends to investigate if this will be covered by ESSER funds, which were already allocated in the area of safety and security in the school.

Two of the school’s old school buses were sold recently.

“The International sold for $2,950 to a gentleman from Indiana, who (picked) it up Sunday. And then the 2009 Bluebird sold for $1,250. That was the one stuck in low and ironically that one’s sold to an individual in El Salvador,” said Brown.

He went on to close saying, “It’s been a blur, it’s going quick and it’s been a great learning experience, just very thankful we are surrounded by a lot of great people. Very thankful our leadership teams question each other and make sure we’re all on the right page and doing the right thing. So very enjoyable first semester.”

The next scheduled meeting for the Twin Rivers board is set for 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17.
