A Poplar Bluff attorney who still holds the record at the University of Missouri for the most points scored in a single basketball game was honored Monday.
L. Joe Scott, former Mizzou basketball player 22, was surprised Monday with the recognition on the Three Rivers College campus during a visit from other Mizzou dignitaries.
Scott’s record of 46 points still stands as the single-game record, set in 1961 in a game against Nebraska.
The Mizzou caravan visited Poplar Bluff as part of the Come HOME Tour Caravan. It included MU administration, coaches and players.
The caravan helped recognize Scott, along with TRC officials and the United Gospel Rescue Mission. Scott has served as chairman of the UGRM board for the past 34 years.
Hot dogs and cookies were provided by the mission and lemonade from the Lemonade House Grill was served during the event.
When asked how he felt about the honor he beamed stating, “It’s pretty great, I am the chairman of the mission and I didn’t know a thing about it.”
