Four people were injured – three of them seriously – in a two-car accident shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday on County Road 604, about a quarter mile east of Poplar Bluff shortly, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Two victims had to be evacuated from the scene by helicopter to St. Louis hospitals, according to authorities.

Chad B. Angle, 47, of Poplar Bluff, was transported by helicopter to Barnes-Jewish Hospital via helicopter; and a 15-year-old male victim was flown to Cardinal Glennon children’s Hospital.

Two other juveniles, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old, were transported by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. One was reported to have serious injuries with the second only moderate.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 20-year-old Tyrone Lane of Poplar Bluff crossed the center of the roadway on a hill crest and slammed into a 2012 Toyota Camry being driven by Angle. Lane was uninjured.

Both cars were totaled in the accident, which was reported at 8:19 p.m. According to a Poplar Bluff Fire Department report, one victim was pinned in his car behind a broken steering wheel. “The steering column was completing broken,’’ according to the report.

All three juveniles were passengers in the Silverado.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, according to the MSHP.
