A new store will open Aug. 3 at Eight Points Shopping Center, while a date could be set soon for the opening of a second new retailer.

Denim and specialty retailer The Buckle announced Tuesday an opening date of Aug. 3 had been set for the Poplar Bluff location. Occupancy permits were granted this week, according to the city planning department.

Occupancy permit inspections are also expected next week at a second new retailer, for a location in Valley Plaza Shopping Center of Carter’s OshKosh.

Occupancy permits are typically one of the last steps before a business can announce its opening date.

The Buckle will occupy 4,241 square feet near Walmart Neighborhood Market on Oak Grove Road.

The company constructed six dressing rooms, two bathrooms and a storage area inside the vacant storefront, said Tony Chilton, city building inspector.

The Buckle sells men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories. The company operates 440 stores in 42 states, with its headquarters in Kearney, Nebraska.

Carter’s OshKosh will be located next to Dollar Tree, having completed a $100,000 remodel. The 5,000-square-foot location will sell baby, toddler and children’s clothing.

There are approximately 600 Carter’s and OshKosh B’gosh stores nationwide, according to the company.
