This is the time of year to begin thinking about Christmas; volunteers with Stoddard County Shop With a Hero are gearing up to take Stoddard County kids shopping for Christmas.

To be eligible this year, children must qualify for the free and reduced lunch program in their school district and present proof of qualification for free and reduced lunch. The age limit is 3-10 years old and they must live in Stoddard County.

A large enrollment is expected this year due to the economy and with limited funding. Please only enroll your child if this is the only Christmas they receive.

No appointment is necessary just come on one of the enrollment days listed below:

8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 7

8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 8

8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 9 (last day of enrollment).

Enrollment place: Stoddard County 911 Services, 512 Cooper St., Dexter, MO 63841.

Proof of Eligibility:

Free and reduced lunch qualification from school district, or Head start enrollment. If child is not in school, bring proof of income and

birth certificate of child

Proof of current physical address (utility bill, pay stub, rent or lease).

"Shop With a Hero" is a "not-for-profit" organization made up of Stoddard County Law Enforcement, Firemen, Probation and Parole and EMS Personnel. The first two Sundays in December, Emergency Responders gather at Wal-Mart to take approximately 300 children shopping for Christmas. They get to spend $75.
