BLOOMFIELD -- The Stoddard County Commissioners approved new tires for a county vehicle during its Wednesday morning meeting.

Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russ Oliver, according to the unapproved minutes from the meeting, asked the commission what could be done about his county vehicles.

One vehicle, he reported, has more than 300,000 miles on it and has left an employee stranded. The other reportedly needs tires, and its air conditioner does not work.

Associate Commissioner Steve Jordan made a motion to have Oliver get tires put on the car, as well as get a quote for the AC repair, but to wait on getting it fixed.

Associate Commissioner Carol Jarrell seconded Jordan's motion and it passed. Presiding Commissioner Greg Mathis was absent.

During the meeting, Kelly Mitchell with the Bootheel Regional Planning provided the paperwork for the commissioners to sign regarding the county's intent to participate in hazard mitigation.

By signing the paperwork, the county reportedly agrees to comply with Federal Emergency Management Agency and State Federal Emergency Management Agency guidelines, so in the event of a disaster and its declared a state or federal emergency, the county can participate in the federal grant program to recoup its costs.

Stoddard County Emergency Management Agency Director Kent Polsgrove also gave his monthly report to the commission.

Circuit Clerk Paula Yancey told the commissioners she always has used folding chairs from the basement for the government building for jury selection and trials.

Those chairs reportedly are no longer available as they belonged to Mathis, who is leaving office at the end of the month.

The commissioners reportedly told Yancey to check prices and get chairs purchased for her upcoming trial next week.

The commission set Jan. 2 to start the 2019 budget.
