BLOOMFIELD - Stoddard County commissioners took another step in the county’s jail expansion project by awarding the old Methodist Church demolition at 201 E. Court Street to Ferrell Enterprises Inc. of Sikeston.
Ferrell submitted the lowest bid of $29,822 out of the six applicants during Monday morning’s document opening. A base bid of 20 days was submitted by the company as well.
The next lowest bid came in at $41,900 and the highest bid was submitted at $144,000.
With the bid awarded, Dale Rogers of Robert Stearns and Associates, Inc. will prepare the paperwork for the demolition.
According to Rogers, 13 people and 11 companies attended the pre-bid meeting for the demolition, but the meeting was not required for bidders.
Thank a Farmer Week
Commissioners signed a proclamation designating Feb. 3-9 as Missouri Farm Bureau Thank a Farmer Week.
Stoddard County Farm Bureau President Aaron Porter told officials one farm produces food and fiber for 165 people in the United States and abroad.
He also added U.S. consumers spend approximately 10 percent of their disposable income on food each year, less than any country in the world.
Coroner’s vehicle
Commissioners awarded Lutesville Motor Company with the coroner’s vehicle bid Monday morning.
The bid was for $21,500 for a 2014 Suburban XL.
